Hwanseongjeong Pavilion was built by the Geumhogang River in 1582 by Yi Ju, a righteous army leader in the Daegu area during the Imjin War, when he was 27.
It was lost after his death, and his 9th-generation descendant Yi Eok-sang rebuilt it on the present site in 1902. It now stands within the grounds of Seogyeseowon Confucian Academy and has a signboard written by Daewongun himself. Several crape myrtle trees grow in the grounds. One of them became a protected tree in 2018, is 270 years old and is 10 m high.
