Deoksanseowon Confucian Academy honors Nameun Seo Seop, who served as Minister of Personnel under King Danjong but gave up his post and lived in hiding when Sejo took the throne.
In 1993 his descendants refitted Cheommojae, a ritual lodge they had built in 1926, into a seowon. Behind the lecture hall Chungjeongdang is the shrine Gyeonguisa, and visitors enter through the outer gate Sungjeolmun and the inner gate Yuhyeonmun. East of the main hall are Seo Seop's spirit-way stele and its stele house. It is always open, and there is no admission fee.
