In 1690 it became a seowon (Confucian academy) enshrining the two scholars. It was torn down in 1868 under the order abolishing seowon, and in 1879 only the lecture hall was rebuilt, which gave it its present name. A fire on December 20, 2021, burned down the lecture hall. The monument marking the lecture site inside the shrine wall and the two shade trees behind the lecture hall show the history of the seodang. It is always open, with no admission fee or parking fee.
