It was torn down in 1868 (Gojong year 5) when Heungseon Daewongun abolished the seowon. Uiheung county magistrate Sin Tae-cheol restored it in 1897 (Gwangmu year 1). Among the descendants of the Miryang Son clan, an oral account says each household hid timber such as pillars and beams during the abolition and reused it in the restoration. After the restoration, the academy was renamed Sungdeoksa and Moseongdang. A memorial rite (hyangsa) is held once a year, on the first Sunday of lunar March.
