It burned during the Korean War (6·25) and was rebuilt in 1959. The temple enshrines the royal portrait of Queen Seondeok and holds the Sungmojae memorial rite every year on the full-moon day of the 3rd lunar month. An old danggan jiju (flagpole support pillars) remains 200 m south of the temple. The Palgongsan Mountain trail that climbs via Imaljae Pass to Seobong, Birobong, and Dongbong peaks starts here.
