Beopjangsa Temple is a branch temple of Donghwasa Temple that was newly built in 1961 to succeed the old Gosansa Temple, which burned down during the Imjin War.
It sits deep in a valley in Gosangol on Apsan Mountain. The three-story stone pagoda from the Gosansa period was restored recently after scattered pagoda stones were found. The grounds have Daeungjeon Hall, Sansingak (Mountain Spirit Shrine), and monks' quarters (yosachae). It is always open, parking is available, and Apsan Mountain Haeneomi Observatory is a 5-minute drive away.
